Are you aware that mental health disorders are a common condition that affects many people across the globe? In fact, it accounts for up to 11% of the diseases in the world and is even recognized to be a severely disabling disorder. What are mental health disorders or mental illnesses? Mental health disorders are psychological patterns that affect persons and are linked to distress. The disorder can be just a mild mood disorder or it can be a severe manic-depressive condition. Even though health care professionals around the world consider mental health disorders as a group of disorders that cause instabilities in thinking, feeling, acting and relating, the exact definition of the said condition is still diverse.

Anxiety Disorders

What are anxiety disorders? Anxiety disorders are chronic and debilitating. It can affect anybody and are triggered by certain events. A person with anxiety disorder will suffer from occasional episodes of anxiety which can be very intense and traumatic to the point that the sufferer may become immobilized during an episode. There are several anxiety disorders: generalized anxiety disorders, panic disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and phobias. They exhibit bizarre behavior and have difficulty relating / interacting with other people. People suffering from psychotic disorders have a great difficulty if not inability to carry out day-to-day activities. Here are the symptoms that are usually associated with psychotic disorders:

Disorder in Eating

The disorders in eating cause an individual to intentionally avoid eating at all costs. This then affects not just the physical health of an individual, but the mental health is severely affected as well. Here are the commonly linked symptoms:

  • Irrational fear of becoming fat
  • Having a very low weight
  • Self-recrimination
  • Purging
  • Crash dieting
  • Binge eating
  • Preoccupation with weight and body shape
  • Over exercising
  • For females: amenorrhea

Mood Disorders

  • Lack of sleep (insomnia)

  • Hopelessness / helplessness / pessimism
